Kazakhstan, in collaboration with
Japan, is set to reinforce and modernize its hydraulic structures to
effectively combat floods. Japan has effective developments and significant
experience in this area. Cooperation between the two countries could begin as
early as June 2024, according to the relevant ministry.
“Japan is considering two
options for providing assistance. The first involves joint work with the country’s
Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. The second option
entails cooperation with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA),
which is ready to provide technical support starting in June. In turn, Japan
has requested a list of priority facilities that require immediate
reinforcement. This information will be transferred to JICA representatives,” said
Galymzhan Kambarbekov, spokesperson for the Kazakh Ministry of Water Resources and
Irrigation.
