The
irrigation season in Kazakhstan concluded successfully - without complications.
The water supply requests of all agricultural producers were fulfilled, the
Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation reported. According to the Ministry,
nearly 11 billion cubic meters of water for regular irrigation were supplied to
farmers in the southern regions. The total irrigated area amounted to 1.2
million hectares, which accounted for 97 percent of the total water intake.
Other indicators also highlight a successful growing season. Thus, the volume
of water directed to the Northern Aral Sea tripled this year, exceeding one
billion cubic meters. Overall, farmers’ requests in the Shu and Talas river basins
were successfully met. The growing season was stable in the Balkhash-Alakol
basin. In other basins, it was at the level of previous years and without
risks, the Ministry noted.
