International Biology Olympiad underway in Kazakhstan

The 35th International Biology Olympiad (IBO), the world's most prestigious scientific Olympiad, featuring 305 young biologists and 275 scientists from 81 countries, is taking place in Kazakhstan. The IBO is one of the top seven international competitions among schoolchildren. During the past 28 years, Kazakhstan’s students have successfully represented the country, winning more than 70 awards of various merits.

«The reason for holding such a large-scale event in Kazakhstan is that our students consistently win prizes at this Olympiad. Every second Kazakh school student participating in international olympiads wins awards. This year alone, 243 Kazakh schoolchildren secured prizes at international academic competitions. This demonstrates the high quality of education in our schools,» Kazakh Minister of Education Gani Beisembayev said.

Four competitors and two supervisors are representing Kazakhstan at this year’s IBO. These students, winners of the national olympiad, were selected through a multi-stage process. In addition to theoretical and practical assignments, participants will enjoy excursions to the sights of Astana and the Burabai resort, along with opportunities to explore the history and culture of Kazakhstan.

«I have been preparing for this Olympiad since the seventh grade. Thanks to my hard work over the past five years, I have earned the opportunity to participate in this prestigious competition. I am very happy to represent my country and test my knowledge. I wish all participants the best of luck!» said IBO participant Nurtore Torekhanuly.
