Kazakhstan’s efforts to preserve
its unique cultural and natural heritage have received international
recognition, as evidenced by the fact that the country was elected to the
United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World
Heritage Committee. A total of 118 states supported Kazakhstan’s candidature.
It is worthy to note that the World Heritage Committee stands as one of
UNESCO’s pivotal and influential governing bodies.
“We are confident that Kazakhstan’s election to
the UNESCO World Heritage Committee is an outcome of the country’s high status
on the international stage and stems from our significant efforts within this
organization. Domestic experts are ready to make a valuable contribution
to the committee’s work, drawing on their relevant experience,” said Askar
Abdrakhmanov, Permanent Delegate of Kazakhstan to UNESCO.
It should be reminded that six national sites
represent Kazakhstan in the World Heritage List, including the Mausoleum of
Khoja Ahmed Yasawi, Petroglyphs of the Archaeological Landscape of Tanbaly,
Saryarka – Steppe and Lakes of Northern Kazakhstan, Silk Roads: the Routes
Network of Chang’an-Tianshan Corridor, Western Tien-Shan, and Cold Winter
Deserts of Turan. Besides, the Kazakh Togyzkumalak board game was
included in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of
Humanity, and the Burabai and Markakol nature reserves, which are specially
protected areas, were included in the UNESCO World Network of Biosphere
Reserves. The musical and puppet art Orteke was added to the UNESCO
Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
