The International Arbitration Centre has become one of the sought-after platforms in Eurasia for resolving commercial disputes. Since its establishment in Kazakhstan, over 1,200 cases have been resolved successfully, including those solved through mediation. IAC Chairman Barbara Dohmann KC gave an exclusive interview to Jibek Joly TV channel. According to her, a special e-filing system ‘e-Justice’, which was launched in 2019, enables parties to file cases at the IAC and the AIFC Court from anywhere around the world. In addition, this platform makes it possible to monitor the progress of the cases, receive notifications and conduct online hearings.
“We are on the map nationally, transnationally, regionally, transregionally. We have achieved, as you probably know, 1,212 cases that have been resolved by mediation and arbitration. All the awards that have been issued by arbitrators have been enforced without complication or difficulty, they have been honored. All awards have been paid, even by the government, the state, having not always succeeded, and having lost their cases, nevertheless they have been paid. So, we feel that from literally nothing you now have an established regional and super regional hub for arbitration in Central Asia. I think that worth the aim of the leaders of this country who wanted to set up our Centre. It has been achieved and I think probably more than any of us would have there to hope that after four years and so many months we would be where we are,” the IAC Chairman said.
It bears noting that the IAC provides an independent and expeditious alternative to court litigation on resolving civil and commercial disputes in the AIFC. It is one of the key bodies of the financial center in the capital. 40 independent arbitrators from all over the world are engaged in the Arbitration Centre’s work.
