Cargo from Kazakhstan in Russia may be transported through the Latvian ports of Riga and Ventspils. Due to the aggravation of the situation between the EU countries and the Russian Federation, problems arose in the field of international transportation. According to the Kazakh Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development, they plan to hold negotiations with the Latvian relevant office and seaport administrations. As an alternative, Kazakh exporters were offered to use the route through the Kazakh ports of Aktau and Kuryk. Regular container traffic between Aktau and Baku and the Kuryk-Baku ferry service have been established to date as part of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route. Kazakh authorities intend to meet with experts in this field from Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey. Representatives of the Kazakh and Russian railways took part in the talks on logistics as well.
The relevant department created an emergency team on responding to problematic issues. This was done in order to provide businesspeople and participants of international cargo transportation with information support.
