Industrial Cooperation Center to be established on Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan border

The largest International Industrial Cooperation Center ‘Central Asia’ is set to be built on the border of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. The center is expected to facilitate the movement of goods, services, and citizens between the two countries, as well as accelerate customs clearance processes. Today, the Senate, the Upper House of the Kazakh Parliament, ratified the intergovernmental agreement on the center’s establishment. The complex will promote economic and investment cooperation, facilitate the distribution and processing of the region’s largest freight flows, and contribute to the development of industrial cooperation within the North-South corridor. Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan aim to increase the mutual trade volume to $10 billion, including through the construction of this facility. Investors from both countries are already showing interest in working on its territory.

«Five companies have already expressed interest in investing, including a fruit and vegetable production plant worth $35 million, a tomato paste factory, a food production plant, a vegetable, fruit, and berry processing plant worth $15 million, and a logistics complex worth $20 million. The fifth project is Global Textile, an Uzbek company that also seeks to establish operations in the center. They have already signed a corresponding memorandum of intent with the investor,» noted Kazakh Vice Minister of Trade and Integration Kairat Torebayev.
