IAEA expert mission begins work in Kazakhstan

A five-day expert mission of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is underway in Astana. International experts and representatives of regulatory bodies from Türkiye, Pakistan, Belarus, and the IAEA will discuss measures to prepare for the construction of a nuclear power plant. The mission also includes a review of the regulatory framework, infrastructure development, and effective regulation for the implementation of the nuclear energy program. Sharing experience with foreign colleagues will enable the country to incorporate international best practices.

«This mission will strengthen our bilateral cooperation not only with the IAEA but also with the regulatory bodies of other countries. It will help us understand how to conduct licensing, inspections, and permit issuance specifically within the nuclear power plant construction project. Previously, we carried out similar missions, but they were more broadly focused on Kazakhstan’s existing nuclear industry,» noted Kanat Tuyakbayev, Head of the Division, the Kazakh Ministry of Energy.
