Next year in Astana, it is
planned to adopt a strategic document aimed at cooperation between the Shanghai
Cooperation Organization (SCO) countries in the field of energy. This became
known during the SCO energy forum, organized as part of the Kazenergy forum. The
strategy, developed at the initiative of Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart
Tokayev, is designed until 2030. It includes six sectoral areas of cooperation
such as oil and gas, electric and nuclear power, renewable energy, coal
industry as well as energy conservation and energy efficiency. The parties plan
to jointly train industry specialists, conduct scientific research and share
experience under the strategy.
“I believe that this approach
will make it possible to respond more effectively to emerging challenges and
successfully adapt the cooperation organization to modern challenges. I am
confident that we will be able to successfully agree on this document in the
interest of all member states for its further signing within the summit of SCO
Heads of State in Astana, slated for June 2024,” said Almassadam Satkaliyev,
Kazakh Minister of Energy.
“To date, the SCO includes 26
member states, among which are major key players in the field of energy and
peace, such as Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Iran, Saudi Arabia and others. Thus,
I believe that this strategy is very important, relevant and timely, and we
hope that it will lead to the well-being, growth and prosperity of all the
people in the region,” noted Sohail Khan, SCO Deputy Secretary General.
