The best documentary films of the Kazakh President’s
TV and Radio Complex can be viewed in Astana. The films, chronicling the
country’s modern history and significant events in the life of society and the
state, are being presented as part of the national film lecture series From
Chronicle to the Future. This large-scale educational project has enabled
audiences in the capital to discover several films. One of them is Aral.
The documentary tells the story of fisherman Kuntugan Turgynbayev, who has
lived his entire life near the Aral Sea. Through the main character, the film
reflects the consequences of the environmental tragedy and the residents’ hopes
for the revival of the region.
«The Aral Sea must be
restored. People need water. On behalf of my fellow countrymen, I would like to
sincerely thank our President for doing everything possible to save the Aral
Sea. Even if we do not live to see the results of this work, our children and
grandchildren will. We cherish this hope,» said the main character of the
film Aral Kuntugan Turgynbayev.
«This is an issue not only for the residents of the
Aral Sea region, but for the entire state as well as the global environmental
agenda. The Head of State keeps this issue under special control. Our goal is
to attract viewers to documentary cinema and bring this genre back to the big
screen. Today, movie theaters mainly show feature films, but documentaries are
also capable of engaging a wide audience and telling real stories about our
country and its people,» noted Akylbek Shalzhanov, Director of the Documentary Film
Center, Kazakh President’s TV and Radio Complex.
The audience was deeply impressed by the fate of the head of a hydrometeorological station on an island in the Caspian Sea. In the film The Man from Kulaly Island, the crew from the Documentary Film Center of the Kazakh President’s TV and Radio Complex captured the unique story of a man who spent most of his life in complete isolation, far from the mainland. Residents and guests of the capital also watched the film titled Kuatty Seriktes. It recounts the Head of State’s visit to Japan, as well as the Central Asia + Japan summit held in Tokyo last year.
«The film explores the political relations between Kazakhstan and Japan. It is important to know what is happening in the country and what kind of political relationships are being built between the states. The documentary is useful for everyone, especially young audiences. My friends and I really enjoyed it,» shared school student Baktygali Igali.
The film lecture
series From Chronicle to the Future will cover 20 cities across Kazakhstan. Screenings will
be held with the support of regional authorities, and the large-scale project will conclude on September 25 in Almaty.
