‘Shape a sustainable future!’ - This is the slogan of the first International Congress ‘ECOJER’ that was held in Nur-Sultan. The event was dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Kazakhstan’s independence. The Congress was attended by representatives of Kazakh state bodies and the European Union, international organizations, as well as heads of the country’s industrial enterprises and eco-activists. The participants discussed the possibilities and ways to minimize negative environmental impacts. Speakers also focused on business opportunities in the field of clean energy and green technologies. In addition, issues of startups and their impact on industries, cities and infrastructure were also raised.
“Today we are holding the first congress together with the European Union. Global integration processes are not foreign to Kazakhstan. So we want to compare our agenda with the global agenda and indicate where, at what point of development, Kazakhstan is when it comes to environmental and ecological matters. There are a lot of topics being discussed within today’s congress. First of all, it’s probably the greening of industry. As well as issues of environmental diplomacy, ensuring global security in relation to climate change,” said Lazzat Ramazanova, Council Chairperson of the Kazakh Association of Regional Environmental Initiatives ‘ECOJER.’
A resolution was adopted as a result of the Congress. It reflected the suggestions and recommendations of the participants on how Kazakhstan could achieve its commitments under the Paris Agreement.
