77.18 percent of voters supported the amendments to the Constitution of Kazakhstan. This is absolute majority in each of the 17 regions. Such is the result of the referendum, which took place on June 5. This was stated at a briefing by Chairperson of the Central Referendum Commission Nurlan Abdirov. According to him, the turnout for the referendum was 68.05 percent - almost eight million Kazakh citizens took part in the voting process.
“Thus, in accordance with the Article 31 of the Constitutional Law “On the National Referendum,” the referendum is considered valid. The decision adopted by the referendum is binding and does not require additional confirmation by legal acts. Amendments and additions to the Constitution adopted at the referendum will enter into force starting the date of publication of the official report on the results of the referendum,” said Nurlan Abdirov, Chairperson of the Central Referendum Commission.
