Kazakh political analysts say the high voter turnout in the
referendum reflects society’s conscious response to the government’s proposal
to discuss a topical issue and take part in a strategic decision for the
country. According to them, the referendum is the highest form of democracy and
a key aspect of the listening state policy.
What does high voter turnout indicate? First, it reflects
the level of trust. Second, it highlights the civic engagement and maturity of
our society, which understands that a significant choice depends on the
willingness and ability to go to the polling station. This is the response of a
mature nation that takes responsibility for its actions and considers the
possibility of whether or not to join the group of nations developing a
peaceful atom,» political analyst Taissiya Marmontova said.
«People have a clear stance. Citizens intend to
participate in public and political life, meaning they want to be directly
involved in the decision-making process. The referendum is a mechanism of
direct democracy, which means it is not mediated participation through any
institutions. It represents a direct interaction between the citizen and the
state,» noted political analyst Aidana Akessina.
