More than 7,000 Kazakh citizens
are currently in temporary accommodation facilities. Over 76,000 people,
including 18,000 children, have been evacuated from flood-affected areas. Over
70,000 heads of livestock have been relocated to safe areas. Yerassyl Saipash, a
senior officer of the Kazakh Ministry of Emergency Situations, provided an update
on the current flood situation in the country at a briefing in Astana. More
than 16,000 people and over 1,600 units of equipment are engaged in
round-the-clock emergency and rescue operations. A total of 126 tonnes of
humanitarian aid have been delivered to the affected regions.
“The hotline received 1,052
calls, with psychologists providing emergency psychological assistance to those
affected by the floods. The national operational headquarters work in full
swing, coordinating all efforts and resources to prevent and mitigate the flood
consequences. Urgent measures will be taken in case of any deterioration of the
situation,” Saipash said.
