Kazakhstan’s new Constitution continues to attract international attention. Members of the diplomatic corps say the Basic Law has ushered in a new stage of the country’s political development. They say the Constitution is aimed at strengthening the protection of citizens’ rights and freedoms, enhancing the effectiveness of state institutions, and further reinforcing democratic principles. International partners are also closely following political developments in Kazakhstan. They cite the elections and the formation of the new Kurultai as key milestones and reaffirm their commitment to further strengthening cooperation with Kazakhstan.
«The Austrian Parliament is very keen on then quickly establishing contacts with the new members of the Kurultai. We have a visit of our Parliamentary Friendship Group to Astana planned for the end of September. So we are really looking forward to then very quickly continue our close cooperation with the Kazakh Parliament,» said Andrea Bacher, Austrian Ambassador to Kazakhstan.
«My
opinion is, of coure, it’s very good that,
you know, it is a way where people had expressed their democratic rights with
regard to the referendum and having a new Constitution.
It's a very good thing, and the people have given their verdict, and I
understand in a day or two it will enter into force. So congratulations to the
people of Kazakhstan,» said Ismat Jahan, CICA Human Dimension Expert.
