2020 has been a tough year for the whole world as well as for Kazakhstan. But despite the pandemic and quarantine restrictions, cultural industry of the country was replenished with new successful projects. A talented person joined the list of such celebrities as Dimash Kudaibergen, Scryptonite and Nurlan Saburov – a musician Imanbek Zeikenov, who was nominated for a Grammy Award for his world popular remix of the song “Roses”. Winners will be announced at the end of January.
A young Kazakh singer Daneliya Tuleshova also won the hearts of fans from abroad last year, thanks to participation in the popular talent show in the United States America’s Got Talent, where she made it to the finals.
“In general, I’d say that 2020 opened many new celebrities, such as Yerzhan Maxim and Daneliya Tuleshova. Creative skills develop from an early age. I believe they have a great future ahead. The pride of Kazakh people Dimash managed to amaze the whole world and become a recognized singer. May the way of Dimash become a guiding path for them,” shared an opinion Honored Artist of Kazakhstan Mayra Ilyassova.
Another star was born in the music scene in 2020. It is a young Kazakh singer Karakat Bashanova. She won the second place in the international Junior Eurovision Song Contest. Her touching performance of the song ‘Forever’ won the hearts of millions of viewers. The contest was held online due to the pandemic. Participants performed their songs in the studio in their countries in a telebridge format.
The last year was no less fruitful for the popular Kazakh band Ninety One. The BBC News became curious about the pioneers of the new music genre Q-pop in Kazakhstan. BBC News mentioned the difficult journey of artists on their way to international fame and success. The popular boy band debuted in Kazakhstan in 2015. Nowadays, modern and trendy music of young and talented singers is wildly popular across the world, and their music videos gather millions of views on the Internet.
