A large-scale cotton cluster will be established in Kazakhstan, and it
is expected to become the largest in Central Asia. A Chinese company plans to
invest more than 200 billion tenge in the project. The full-cycle complex -
from the cultivation of raw cotton to garment manufacturing - will be located
in the Turkistan region. The corresponding resolution was signed by the country’s
Prime Minister. The enterprise is expected to cover an area of 60,000 hectares.
It will employ technological solutions that have not been used on such a scale
before. The project provides for the construction of 200 pumping stations with
drip irrigation systems, more than 500 km of irrigation and distribution
canals, and integrated fertilizer supply systems. The launch of the full-cycle
cotton cluster is expected to strengthen the production base of Kazakhstan’s
textile industry and increase the country’s export potential.
Notably, the Turkistan region remains the center of cotton production in
Kazakhstan. Nearly 16% of all cultivated areas in the country are allocated for
cotton cultivation. This season, 144,000 hectares were planted, yielding a
record harvest of 428,000 tonnes of raw cotton. The harvesting campaign has
been fully completed, and farmers now plan to export their products.
«Our main objective is to process and export finished products. This will, first, improve the socioeconomic situation of agricultural producers, and second, help stabilize prices,» said Alibek Plalov, Deputy Head of the Agriculture Department of the Turkistan region.
