Consortium of countries may build NPP in Kazakhstan

The best world technologies should be used in the construction of a nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan. To achieve this, the project may be undertaken by a consortium of at least five countries. This assumption was expressed by Kazakh First Deputy Prime Minister Roman Sklyar during a government briefing. He noted that the nuclear power plant consists of several facilities, and therefore, its construction requires careful preparation. For example, it takes up to 1.5 years just to develop design and estimate documentation in the world practice. Overall, it is still early to discuss the details, Sklyar emphasized.

«Various companies - subcontractors for the construction of this plant will be involved; such global experience exists. One country can build the nuclear island, another can provide the turbine, a third country can supply indoor switchgear, and so on. All this will yield positive results, so we should not focus on a single supplier or contractor, but rather create a consortium, which, as practice shows, works most effectively,» said Kazakh First Deputy Prime Minister Roman Sklyar.
