President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a second in a day meeting regarding the situation in Afghanistan, said the press secretary of the head of state on his page on social media. The President instructed to continue monitoring the development of the situation in Afghanistan, noting that this is extremely important in order to make decisions on further cooperation with this country. The issues of ensuring the safety of Kazakh citizens were also discussed. According to the foreign ministry, there are no Kazakh citizens in Afghanistan, except for diplomatic corps. The embassy in Kabul keeps working in a small group. Meanwhile, the attention of Central Asia is focused on the unstable situation in Afghanistan. The political scientist Sultan Akimbekov opined that there are no prerequisites and threats for the emergence of a flow of refugees.
“The refugee situation for the Central Asian region must be viewed through the intra-Afghan issue. The Taliban have been controlling almost all border crossings on the border with Central Asia for the last month. This means that it also controls the interior districts. There is no reason to expect that this will be some kind of flow. We saw the situation with Hairatan. Uzbek military, partly refugees, tried to enter the territory of Uzbekistan, but the Uzbek side prevented it,” Akimbekov said.
