The National Bank of Kazakhstan
is releasing new collectible coins from the
«Outstanding events and people» series. They are dedicated to the 125th
birth anniversary of Kazakh scientist and geologist Kanysh Satpayev.
«The coins are issued in two
denominations: 2,000 tenge in a bicolor design and 200 tenge in cupronickel
alloy. The 2,000 tenge coin features a purple-colored tantalum ring,
referencing the color of manganese ore, a large deposit of which was discovered
and developed by Kanysh Satpayev near the village of Zhezdy. The coin weighs 74
grams, has a diameter of 50 mm, and is of proof quality. Its mintage is 300
pieces. The cupronickel alloy coin weighs 15 grams, has a diameter of 33 mm,
and is of brilliant uncirculated quality. It has a denomination of 200 tenge,
and its mintage is 5,000 pieces,» said Almat Bassenov, Chief Designer at the
