Central Asian leaders discuss regional cooperation development in expanded format

The sixth consultative meeting of the heads of state of Central Asia continued in an expanded format. Distinguished guests Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev and Kaha Imnadze, the Head of the United Nations Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, joined the meeting. In the context of complex global processes, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev considers it important to develop a common vision for the further development of regional cooperation. The Head of State expressed confidence that the decisions taken and their subsequent effective implementation will contribute to further deepening multifaceted partnerships in the spirit of centuries-old friendship and mutual support.

«Given the combined potential of our countries, we can make a significant contribution to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Agenda. In support of this important initiative, I propose to initiate the adoption of a UN General Assembly resolution on achieving sustainable development goals in Central Asia on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the United Nations. I hope that the participation of the UN High Representative Kaha Imnadze in our summit will become a good tradition and mark the beginning of closer cooperation between Central Asia and the UN,» said the Kazakh President.

At the end of the summit, President Tokayev, as the chair of the consultative meeting, awarded the Badge of Honor to President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev on behalf of the heads of state of Central Asia.
