6,000 soldiers were sent to the front from the Sozak
district of the Turkistan region. Of those who returned home, only Myrzakhmet
Zhylysbayev is still alive today. He is now 99 years old, and he went to war
when he was just 18. He fought in the ranks of the 92nd self-propelled artillery
regiment. Today, he stands as an example of courage, bravery, and patriotism
for the younger generation.
«I was conscripted at the end of the war. As Bauyrzhan
Momyshuly said, ‘taking part in a war is already a feat of heroism.’ We were
among those who defended the Motherland,» said war veteran Myrzakhmet
Zhylysbayev.
After the war, Myrzakhmet Zhylysbayev returned to his
homeland, became a teacher, and later served as a school principal. He taught
and educated the younger generation. Together with his wife, the elder raised
13 sons and daughters, who gave them 47 grandchildren and 97
great-grandchildren. Now, the veteran dedicates all his free time to recording
his memories. His advice and wisdom have even been compiled into a book titled ‘Urpakka
Amanat’ (A Legacy for Future Generations).
