The
construction of the first underwater fiber-optic communication line along the
bottom of the Caspian Sea between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan has reached a major
milestone. The cable has already been delivered to the Kuryk port, where a
specialized barge has departed for Azerbaijan. This was announced by Chairman
of the Board of Kazakhtelecom Bagdat Mussin on his Instagram account. The
project will form part of the digital corridor between Europe and Central Asia.
The line is expected not only to meet domestic demand but also to significantly
improve the speed, security, and reliability of internet traffic of
international communication channels, as well as strengthen Kazakhstan’s
position as an important digital hub in Eurasia. Stretching nearly 380 kilometers,
the cable will provide data transmission speeds of up to 400 terabits per
second. The work is scheduled for completion in the third quarter of this year.
