The Baiterek space rocket complex may become operational
this year. The first flight of a new launch vehicle from the site is scheduled
for December. The commissioning of the complex will enable Kazakhstan to
establish a full-fledged space industry with an efficient commercial structure.
«Our main project Baiterek is being implemented jointly with
the Russian side. Initially, the Zenit complex was supposed to be located here.
The first rocket launch from this site is scheduled for the end of this year. There
is also growing interest from tourists who want to come and witness a space
launch,» noted Kairat Nurtai, Special Representative of the President of Kazakhstan
at the Baikonur Complex.
«It delivers 17 tonnes of cargo into low Earth orbit,
covering almost the entire spectrum of commercial launches. Kazakh engineers
are involved in supporting the launch within the Baiterek project. As of today,
more than 150 people work there. In the future, the plan is to have around 350
permanent staff working at the Baiterek space rocket complex,» said Baubek
Oralmagambetov, Chairman of the Aerospace Committee, Kazakh Ministry of Digital
Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry.
When launching spacecraft from the Baiterek rocket complex,
aviation kerosene and liquid oxygen are planned to be used as propellants.
According to experts, this is an environmentally safe combination. Preparatory
work is in full swing at the space rocket complex. Notably, Kazakhstan
currently has five spacecraft which provide satellite communications and
territorial monitoring. Thanks to the new Baiterek complex, the industry will
advance to a new level. This is a multiplier investment in the country’s
future.
