Over 800 athletes from 13 countries will start the international cross-country race and open water swimming in Akmola region. Sports events will be held in Burabai National Park. Contestants will run 12- and 35-kilometer distances as well as swim in Small Chebachye lake. After the competitive part, athletes and their supporters will switch to plogging, which is a combination of jogging with picking up litter. Thus, the event organizers want to draw attention to environmental issues and promote a healthy lifestyle.
“International marathons are very significant events. If we take the world's largest marathons as an example, we will see that up to 50,000 people participate in them. And the number of fans, who come to watch events reaches several hundred thousand people. This is not just about supporting people, but also attracting tourists, both local and foreign ones,” said Daniyel Serzhanuly, the Managing Director of the Kazakh Tourism National Company.
