Astana to welcome athletes from 35 countries for Games of the Future 2026

Astana is set to host the international Games of the Future phygital tournament, which kicks off on July 29. Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov inspected the capital's readiness to stage the major sporting event. Bektenov was informed that uninterrupted operation of digital systems has been ensured at all venues, competition sites have been prepared for athletes and spectators, and a volunteer centre has been set up. Special attention has been given to security, logistics, and service quality. The tournament is expected to bring together around 1,000 athletes from 35 countries across Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America. Kazakhstan will be represented by 11 teams. Athletes will compete in eight disciplines, including phygital football, basketball, martial arts, and dance, with a total prize pool of more than $4 million. The Ministry of Tourism and Sports expects the tournament to attract around 10,000 foreign visitors to Kazakhstan and provide an additional boost to the country's tourism industry.

«This is a modern competition format called phygital, where athletes compete in two dimensions – the digital and physical worlds. The tournament will be held at four sports venues in our capital. Each venue will host two disciplines, while the Qazaqstan Athletics Complex will host three: football, basketball, and MMA. This is the first time these competitions are being held here in Central Asia, bringing together the strongest clubs from around the world across multiple disciplines,» said Alibek Khassenov, Head of the Organizing Committee for the Games of the Future 2026
