The creation of a Regional Research Center for
Rare Earth Metals in the capital of Kazakhstan will give impetus to the
development of geology in all Central Asian countries. President Kassym-Jomart
Tokayev’s proposal at the summit in Uzbekistan is especially relevant amid the
discovery of a large deposit of rare earth metals in the Kuirektykol site in
the Karagandy region. Its total reserves approach 20 million tonnes. According
to experts, this geological discovery has become the largest in the world.
«There are no analogs of this type of
rare-earth machinery in Kazakhstan, making it a new industrial type. Therefore,
with the potential attraction of investors in the future, a significant
multiplier effect is expected for the development of the region and the country
as a whole. In other words, with the successful development of ore enrichment
technology and the extraction of valuable components from this type of deposit,
Kazakhstan's investment attractiveness will significantly increase,» said
Nurlan Maukulov, head of the CenterKazNedra republican state institution.
Kazakhstan produces 19 out of 34 types of raw
materials for the EU economy, including uranium, titanium, copper, lithium,
cobalt, and tungsten. There are currently more than 100 deposits of rare and
rare earth metals on the state balance sheet. In general, the geological and
mining industries are currently demonstrating positive dynamics. The country is
implementing advanced and sustainable practices. From 2018 to 2023, nearly a
billion dollars of private and foreign investment were attracted to the sector.
«Currently, mineral resource development is
progressing actively. To date, we have issued around 3,000 licenses for
exploration. License, exploration, and extraction are interconnected. This, in
turn, increases the demand for highly qualified specialists,» noted Margulan
Baibatyrov, Deputy Chairman of the Geology Committee at the Kazakh Ministry of
Industry and Construction.
