The Astana Opera House is
preparing a new unique touring program for 2024. The ballet troupe of the
capital’s theatre is set to embark on a tour to Slovenia, where they will
present the legendary ballet ‘Spartacus’ by Aram Khachaturian at the
international festival in Ljubljana. Meanwhile, the opera troupe will perform
at the Bolshoi Theatre in Russia. This year, the Astana Opera plans to showcase
the premiere of ‘The Sleeping Beauty’ ballet by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and
present new opera productions, including ‘Aisulu’ by Sydyk Mukhamedzhanov and
‘Rigoletto’ by Giuseppe Verdi.
“In addition to ballet and opera
performances, we are planning to arrange a variety of concert programs
featuring a symphonic orchestra. We will also perform in the Astana Opera’s Kulyash
Baiseitova Chamber Hall and the International Opera Academy for young opera
singers where premiere shows will take place. Our repertoire is extensive,
comprising national operas and ballets as well as works from world classics,”
said Azamat Zheltyrguzov, opera company director at the Astana Opera.
One of the long-term goals that the theatre is
pursuing today is the promotion of national art. Seeking a contemporary
interpretation, the Astana Opera aims to enrich the country’s cultural heritage
by infusing it with a new sound. This modernized presentation of national art
will be shared with audiences, both domestic and foreign.
“The national opera is always a
highlight, consistently captivating sophisticated European audiences and
theaters because all Kazakh plays and operas include ballet scenes. Operas such
as ‘Abai’, ‘Birzhan-Sara’, ‘Kyz Zhibek’, and ‘Alpamys’ feature ballet
performances with beautiful dances and lively music. Last year, the premiere of
the opera-ballet ‘Kalkaman-Mamyr’ by Balnur Kydyrbek took place. Now, the
production of the ‘Abai’ opera is planned at the Bolshoi Theatre,” Zheltyrguzov
added.
