Another artificial
heart implantation was performed in Shymkent. Doctors installed the device in a
patient with acute heart failure. 68-year-old Abdikhashym Issabayev was
admitted in serious condition. Now he notes significant improvement: shortness
of breath and pain have gone.
«For three years, I
struggled to sleep due to shortness of breath. During
the day, I somehow managed, but nights were unbearable. Now, I can finally
breathe easily. They say I will be discharged in a couple of days. I am
endlessly grateful to the doctors and Kazakhstan,» Issabayev shared.
The artificial heart
completely takes over the function of blood circulation, replacing the natural
one. The battery-powered device ensures the uninterrupted operation of vital
organs.
«The device refills
the blood with oxygen using a pump and supplies it to all organs. Without this, the brain, liver, and kidneys would suffer from oxygen
deprivation. But this device solves the problem without harming other organs,»
said Bagdaulet Yerlanuly, VAD programs coordinator at the Heart Center in
Shymkent.
Over the past five
years, specialists at the center have performed 17 similar operations. An
artificial heart is not a death sentence, doctors say, it is often a temporary
solution before a transplant. Most importantly, all these complex procedures
are provided free of charge to Kazakh citizens under the compulsory medical
insurance system.
