The fourth episode of the international vocal contest Silk Way Star, which aired last weekend, was the most extraordinary in the show’s history. Contestants performed songs in each other’s languages – from Chinese and Korean to Tajik and Mongolian. The language each participant would sing in was determined by a draw. For many, this challenge proved to be a real test, but all the contestants delivered outstanding performances. First place was shared by Michelle Joseph from Mongolia, who sang in Chinese, and Yazmin Aziz from Malaysia, who performed in Mongolian, both earning 120 points. After four episodes, Kazakhstan’s representative Alem is currently in the lead with 470 points, followed by Mongolia and Malaysia with 450 points each. Georgia and Uzbekistan are close behind with 448 points apiece. Notably, no one was eliminated at this stage, so all contestants will continue in the competition. The episode became a true cultural journey, as the performers exchanged repertoires and learned more about each other’s traditions. Ahead lie the decisive performances and the grand finale of Silk Way Star.
«The performance was crazy; it was so good. And I want to thank my dancers, also the band, and musicians. My dancers were so good, they had big energy,» Joseph said.
«What makes my performance special for tonight, I think is that it’s going to be the language I’ve never sung in my life, I’ve never spoken this language before,» Aziz said.
