Seven industrial zones will be created in
the Almaty region. Three of them will focus on the development of the region’s
agro-industrial complex. Overall, the industrial areas are designed to develop
export-oriented production and attract investment. Projects have already been
launched in some of these zones. For example, a sublimation plant for freezing
fruit and vegetable products has been built in the Bereke industrial zone, with
a processing capacity of 25,000 tonnes per year. The Kairat zone hosts 26
companies, with a total of 150 billion tenge in attracted investments.
Additionally, the region is home to the largest special economic zone in
Central Asia, which is also one of the three largest in the world by area -
Alatau. This zone is also attracting investment.
«The expansion of the export geography for
enterprises in the Almaty region is one of its most important achievements.
Today, the region exports products to 63 countries, with 90 percent of the
exports consisting of processed goods. Compared to last year, the export volume
increased from $565 million to $581 million,» noted Almaty region governor
Marat Sultangaziyev.
Furthermore, leading global companies are
being attracted to increase the region’s production volumes. Agreements have
been signed with foreign investors to implement joint projects in metallurgy
and infrastructure. Overall, the inflow of investments into the Almaty region’s
economy is growing. Since the start of the year, the volume of attracted funds
has increased by 22.5 percent, reaching 778 billion tenge.
