Kazakh filmmaker Aisultan Seitov’s
movie “QASH” (Run) was nominated for the Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA) in
two categories, Best Film and Best Cinematography. The award ceremony will take
place on November 3 in the Gold Coast, Australia. Established in 2007, the APSA
showcases the works of filmmakers from over 70 countries and regions in the Asia-Pacific
area. The film by the young yet already world-famous Kazakh filmmaker tells the
story of the mass famine of the 1930s. According to the film plot, gravedigger
Issatay goes on a perilous journey to save his auyl (village). The boundless steppe
turns into cyclical nightmare, where Issatay’s mind battles space and hunger. Earlier,
the film won the Best Director Award at the 25th Shanghai International Film
Festival. Besides, it was ahead of other films in four nominations from the Association
of Film Critics of Kazakhstan, including Best Debut, Best Supporting Actress,
Best Music, and Best Cinematography.
