In
Kazakhstan, waste collection vehicles will be monitored through special GPS
sensors, with 122 organizations already connected to this system. This will
enable real-time tracking of waste from collection points to disposal sites.
This announcement was made by the relevant ministry during the VIII Eurasian
Business Forum «Green Energy & Waste Recycling», which features over 200
participants, including representatives of the industry and international
organizations, as well as experts from the UK, the U.S., Austria, Greece and
Central Asian countries. It was noted that Kazakhstan is taking systematic steps
to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060, as well as in accordance with the concept
of transitioning towards a green economy by 2030. By that time, the recycling
rate of municipal waste in the country should reach 40 percent. To address the
waste disposal issue, the government is implementing support measures. This
year, a special mechanism for preferential financing of waste management
projects has been approved. Thanks to this mechanism, 37 new plants will be
built, and eight existing ones will be modernized in the country this year.
Four projects—in the Akmola and Kostanai regions and Shymkent—are already in
the financing stage.
«We have developed an Action Plan, which was
approved by the government in July 2023, for constructing new landfills and
expanding the capacity of existing ones, as well as ensuring their compliance
with standards. Additionally, we created a Concept for the development of
environmental culture among the population for 2024-2029, with one of its main
focuses being rational waste management. The Concept includes initiatives aimed
at raising public awareness of proper waste management practices,» said Zhomart
Aliyev, Kazakh Vice Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources.
