Over 80% of Kazakhstan’s state budget is aligned with the
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a focus on infrastructure, roads,
and access to social services in both urban and rural areas. This was
highlighted during a Senate meeting of the parliamentary commission monitoring
the implementation of national sustainable development goals and objectives.
Special emphasis was placed on modernizing the country’s 20 single-industry
towns, which account for over a third of national industrial output.
Participants also exchanged ideas and proposals on projects in energy, water
supply, transport, and digital connectivity. Following the directive of the
Head of State, efforts are underway to create comfortable living conditions for
all citizens, regardless of their place of residence. Central to these efforts
is the implementation of the national infrastructure plan through 2029 and
attracting investment into key sectors.
«Kazakhstan is already leading among Central Asian countries
in implementing the SDGs. We are preparing specific recommendations and will
begin working on legislation to ensure that today's proposals are incorporated
into state programs, integrated into the legal framework, and extended to the
regions. Each region should have its own specific approach, as discussed today.
We will continue to focus on this topic and revisit it again in the fall, as it
is essential to understand that no SDG exists in isolation,» said Olga
Bulavkina, Member of the Senate, an upper house of the Kazakh Parliament.
