Three medical and pharmaceutical clusters to be created in Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan intends to export up to half a thousand types of medicines to the EAEU member states and neighboring countries by 2025. The plans and prospects for the development of the domestic pharmaceutical industry were discussed today at an international forum in the capital. Thus, three medical and pharmaceutical clusters will appear in Astana, Aktobe and Shymkent cities. Kazakh Health Minister Azhar Giniyat noted that research and development centers will be established as well. They will be engaged in scientific studies to produce import-substituting medicines in Kazakhstan. By 2025, on the instructions of Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the share of domestic pharmaceutical production shall double up to 50 percent.

“It’s of great importance to cooperate with global partners, to set up such research and development centers, as they are capable of producing goods. We are keen to work with partners who can promote these commodity items on the market. Clinical research is vital, it is the first stage of localization and studying goods. Many companies come to Kazakhstan, from Russia inclusively. A clinical center has been established in our country to work with these biopharmaceutical companies. Disciplines in this area should be opened in all universities. Students and doctors shall cooperate closely in this industry. So, this synergy of universities, hospitals and enterprises is currently being integrated. And it will yield results,” Chairperson of SK-Pharmacy Yerkhat Iskaliyev assured.

It is necessary to attract the most advanced international technology and equipment to the country for the development of the health system as a whole, experts say.

“South Korean experts will share the technology that they have developed over the years to specialists in Kazakhstan. They will monitor how this transfer is carried out. We are already training our specialists, who will not only assembly, but also produce complex mechanical parts here in Kazakhstan in the future. And this will give impetus to science and technology progress in the country,” added Lyazzat Kassenova, spokesperson for medical equipment distributor.
