A branch of the 70-year-old South Korean
university Woosong is set to open in Turkistan to train IT and other technical
specialists, as well as professionals for industry and agriculture. The
educational institution is currently under construction in the city and is set
to be commissioned in May. The branch is expected to begin operations in
September. According to experts, attracting the world’s leading universities to
the country will enable Kazakh students to acquire advanced knowledge and
pursue a double-degree program without traveling abroad. Moreover, this
initiative has a positive economic impact on Kazakhstan.
«Higher education is a significant investment
into the country’s economy. According to statistics, a total of 1,300 people
will be provided with jobs if 1,000 foreigners pursue their studies in
Kazakhstan. Thus, it can be viewed as both a long-term investment and an
additional source of revenue for the state budget,» noted Olzhas Berkinbayev,
Director of the Public Relations Department at the Kazakh Ministry of Science
and Higher Education.
Notably, foreign university branches have
provided students with over 2,000 grants this year. Also, in 2025, Kazakhstan
plans to open representative offices of 11 more leading international higher
education institutions, including the renowned University of Oxford.
