100-year-old war veteran lives in Kentau

Kazakhstan is home to 114 World War II veterans, including nine in the Turkistan region and one in Kentau. Among them is Badan Torebayev, who went to the front as an 18-year-old in 1944. He fought in battles in Belarus and Ukraine and witnessed victory in Berlin. After returning home, he worked for many years at the Myrgalymsai mine in Kentau. Now 100 years old, Torebayev has two sons, three daughters, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His family remembers his stories about the hardships of war and the price of victory. He urges people to cherish peace, believing that the greatest wealth is a clear sky above.

«Everyone deeply respects our hero, and we are very grateful for the attention he receives. The veterans’ home in our city also checks in on him. Our grandfather grew up in the fresh village air, which has kept him strong. We take care of him and hope he enjoys a long and comfortable life,» said the veteran’s daughter-in-law Aizhan Torebayeva.
