Astana will host over 100 events as part of
the Year of Working Professions. One of the key events will be the city
championship of professional skills. More than 500 participants will compete in
49 competencies across 15 educational sites in the capital. Winners will
advance to the national championship this fall. An initiative on expanding high
school students’ training at vocational education institutions will continue,
where they will gain practical skills and qualifications in professions such as
seamstress, baker, cook, hairdresser, florist, furniture manufacturing
specialist, and electric and gas welder. Graduates will receive both a
certificate and a qualification certificate. Special attention will also be
paid to international certification of colleges, the establishment of new
resource centers, and increased employer involvement in training. Besides, Astana
will host various competitions and festivals, including culinary, sewing,
gastronomy, creative contests, sports events, which, according to experts, will
attract participants and visitors globally.
«We plan to hold the WorldSkills city
competition for college students, schoolchildren, and people with special
educational needs. Additionally, the international competition AstauFest will
take place this year. Our main goal is to elevate the prestige of blue-collar
jobs, attract young people to the real sector of the economy, and foster
collaboration with employers in training personnel specifically for these
professions,» noted Akmaral Khon, head of the department, Department of Education
of Astana city.
