Kazakhstan proposes a new cashback mechanism for tourists. The cashback amounts will depend on the length of a tourist’s stay as part of a package tour. Such measures are being taken to further stimulate domestic tourism in Kazakhstan.
“Tourists will receive a five percent cashback of the total cost of the tour for a one-night stay, ten percent for a two-day stay, 15 percent for three days, and a maximum of 20 percent for stays of four days or more. The mechanism is proposed to be applied to tours during the off-season in order to support business, population, and room occupancy rates. Tourist cashback is paid for tours purchased through travel companies and marketplaces. A marketplace, if it has its own funds, will pay the cashback immediately after the tour. The state then will reimburse these expenses. For tours purchased from companies offline, the state will send the cashback directly to the tourist after he or she fills in and sends an application form with the relevant documents,” said Nurtas Bailarov, spokesperson for the Ministry of Tourism and Sports.
The finished project is now a topic of discussion with representatives of the tourism market. The mechanism imposes minimum requirements on participants. Tour operators must have a license for conducting activities in the domestic tourism, while the marketplace should be developed within the country, convenient for both tourists and tour operators.
