Kazakhstan is among the leaders
in the CIS countries for protecting intellectual property rights. The country
is willing to share its experience and learn from the latest global trends. In
Astana, the Summer School of the World Intellectual Property Organization
(WIPO) has opened its doors at the National Institute of Intellectual Property.
This is the third time it is being held in Kazakhstan. This year, 50 people,
including university students and professionals in the field, will have the
opportunity to explore the intricacies of copyrights, patents, and trademarks.
In addition to Kazakhstan, participants come from other Central Asian states,
Russia, Moldova, and the Caucasus.
«A young person, for example a
school student, invents something. We hear about this in the news because
journalists often report such stories. However, we may find out that they have
not submitted an application. We then start searching for the student, contact
them, and help ensure that their application meets the requirements for
registering it as a utility model, for instance,» Inkara Shertysheva, spokesperson
for Qazpatent, said.
«I have been involved in this field for quite
some time. So, I would like to enhance my knowledge not only in the areas I’m
already familiar with but also in contemporary and rapidly evolving topics that
are set to become an integral part of our near future,» Sofiya Rasskazova, a participant
in the WIPO Summer School, said.
