Those who suffered from the riots in January in Almaty started to receive compensation. This was announced during a meeting of the city headquarters for restoration of vital infrastructure of the city. A total of 603 individuals, namely employees of state agencies, hospitals and media will receive financial assistance. According to the city’s Deputy Mayor Ilyas Usserov, severely injured people will get 2 million tenge (almost US$4,600), moderately wounded ones – 1 million (around US$2,300) and slightly injured ones – 500,000 tenge. Financial assistance of 100,000 tenge (US$1,147) will also be given to employees involved in the period of the state of emergency. These are staff of the police, Department of Emergency Situations, public health department and rescue services. In total, 9,066 people.
