The VI National Sports Festival kicked off in Astana. Athletes from all regions of Kazakhstan are taking part in this event. Over the course of a week, they will compete in Assyk Atu, Kazakh Kuresi, Togyzkumalak, Kokpar, Baige, Zhamby Atu, Tenge Ilu, and traditional archery, as well as showcase their strength and agility in combat sports. The three best regions will be determined in the contest, which is held every four years.
“On the one hand, this event can be considered as a kickoff before the international competition. Over its 20-year anniversary, the festival has strengthened its position. Its program used to include the Kazakh traditional game called Kyz Kuu, but we have recently removed it from the list of sports. In contrast, last year, traditional archery was recognized as a sports discipline, and the relevant ministry is currently creating all the conditions for its development,” Bakdaulet Sabitov, Director of the National and Equestrian Sports Center, said.
