The Uly Dala Zhorygy baige
marathon returns to Kazakhstan this spring, commencing on May 12 in the North
Kazakhstan region. The starting point will be the Abylai Khan’s museum complex
residence in Petropavl. The marathon runners will cover a 500-kilometer route through
picturesque places of the Burabai resort area, the Botai settlement, and the
ancient town of Bozok. Overall, 20 teams from all over the country and 15
foreign teams will compete in the horse race scheduled to finish on May 17 in
Astana. Countries such as Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Mongolia, and Kyrgyzstan are
interested in joining the competition.
“The choice of the Botai
settlement as the starting point of the horseback riding route is backed by
scientific evidence indicating it as the site where humans first domesticated
the horse. The Great Steppe Race aims to promote the history of our country,
which holds significance for the younger generation,” said Joryq Equestrian
Federation President Bakhytzhan Turlybekov.
Uly Dala Zhorygy is a true steppe
laboratory for identifying strong horse breeds. This year, Kazakh breeds such
as the Adai horse and Kostanai horse will demonstrate their endurance alongside
internationally recognized breeds. According to organizers, the first three
winning teams will earn a license granting them the right to participate in an
international tournament preceding the World Nomad Games this autumn.
