Kazakh tennis team ends qualifying match in Tokyo

The women’s tennis teams of Kazakhstan concluded their performance in Tokyo in the Billie Jean King Cup 2024 Qualifiers with a victorious match against Japan. In doubles, Kazakh athletes Anna Danilina and Zhibek Kulambayeva defeated Ena Shibahara and Shuko Aoyama with a score of 7:6, 3:6, 11:9. This is the second time their duo have secured victories for the Kazakh tennis team.

“I’m so excited to have won! It’s a great honor for me to play for the national team, precisely at this stage, in such a stadium where the crowd is cheering and watching. The match was emotionally very tough, especially the match balls. We’ve missed two match balls, the third one was successful,” Kulambayeva said.

“It was a very tough tie. We tried our best to participate very well and, of course, it helped playing at home. All girls were amazing this weekend and just a little bit lucky,” said Danilina.

It should be noted that earlier the Kazakh team, comprised of Anna Danilina, Zhibek Kulambayeva, Yulia Putintseva, Zarina Dias, and Aruzhan Sagandykova, lost to the women’s tennis team of Japan in three singles matches. The draw will take place in a week, after which the names of the next opponents of the domestic athletes in the playoffs of the Billie Jean King Cup 2024 in November will be known.
