New buses have been launched in the capital of Turkmenistan. 700 Chinese-made buses are now operating on the streets of Ashgabat. All are equipped with onboard computers and GPS systems, enabling dispatchers to monitor their location and speed in real time. Fare payment is handled through a digital system. Accessibility features have been added, including ramps and a voice notification system. The decision to launch the new buses was made as part of Turkmenistan’s national development program through 2052.
«We can track each bus’s location, check that it stays on its route, and ensure it adheres to the speed limit. This allows us to monitor the city’s transport system. For example, if a bus is delayed, we can notify passengers. This makes public transportation more predictable for residents,» said Akhmed Bairamov, a specialist at the Turkmen State Enterprise for Road Traffic Supervision.
«This telematics system enables Ministry of Transport
staff to remotely access key bus information, receive real-time video from
onboard cameras, and track fuel consumption and other data. On these screens,
you can see the system’s interface in action. It provides a convenient and
efficient way to centrally monitor the entire fleet,» said Wang Qiang Blus, IT product manager at a Chinese bus
manufacturing company.
