Transport corridors development

Kazakhstan accounts for nearly half of the investments directed by the World Bank to Europe and Central Asia, as announced by World Bank Country Manager for Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan Andrei Mikhnev. During a government meeting, Mikhnev said that two major projects worth $3.2 billion are currently being implemented and financed to develop key transport corridors within the Western Europe-Western China International Road Corridor. Over 1,600 kilometers of main roads have already been built. Also, a four-lane highway is under construction to become part of the extensive Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, enhancing international integration and promoting multimodality by connecting the north and south.

«We are interested in further increasing the volume of cooperation. It is crucial to make all the necessary decisions to accelerate this process. A very important issue you have raised is the increase of local content and the creation of conditions for local Kazakh companies in the implementation of financing projects at the expense of the World Bank. We are ready to work together and provide comprehensive support. This is very important to us as it involves the development of local businesses, competencies, and others,» said Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov.

Starting from January 2025, Kazakhstan is set to implement the Superpave mix design system. This method of creating asphalt concrete compositions will ensure the durability of road surfaces against significant temperature fluctuations. Furthermore, a unified digital platform for monitoring the quality of road construction materials is planned to be introduced next year. Currently, the system operates in four regions of the country.
