Prospects for development of Kazakhstan-China strategic partnership

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a meeting with Chinese Premier of the State Council Li Qiang. The parties discussed the state and prospects for the development of a comprehensive strategic partnership between Kazakhstan and China. Particular attention was paid to the practical implementation of the agreements previously reached during the talks between President Tokayev and Chinese President Xi Jinping. The meeting also addressed issues of cooperation in agriculture, geological exploration, automotive industry, high technology and digitalization. The parties also confirmed their mutual striving to continue cooperation on the joint use of transboundary rivers.

“The Chinese Government is effectively addressing the most important tasks of ensuring the sustainability of the economy amid global turbulence. We highly appreciate your country’s significant contribution to facilitating the stable development of the entire world economy. Kazakhstan has traditionally attached utmost importance to strengthening the bonds of friendship, good neighborliness and comprehensive strategic cooperation with China. The country has been and remains China’s reliable strategic partner and friendly neighbor. Today, Kazakh-Chinese relations are rapidly developing due to an active high-level political dialogue as well as the coordinated work of the governments of the two countries,” said the Kazakh President.

During the meeting, President Tokayev and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress Zhao Leji discussed the strengthening of inter-parliamentary relations between Kazakhstan and China. The parties also emphasized fruitful cooperation on a wide range of bilateral interactions. As the President of Kazakhstan noted, the two countries have built an exemplary interstate cooperation which is inevitably strengthened in the spirit of eternal comprehensive strategic partnership. The Head of State underlined that the parties intend to increase the volume of mutual trade to $40 billion in the near future. Overall, Kazakhstan accounts for half of China’s trade turnover with all Central Asian countries.
