Soldiers stage theatrical performance in costumes of Kazakh khans and batyrs

In a unique celebration of Nauryz, conscript soldiers from the South regional command of the Guards garrison in the Zhambyl region presented a theatrical performance dressed as historical khans and warriors. They portrayed historical figures such as khans Zhanibek and Kerei, Abylai, Tauke, and batyrs Karasai, Bogenbai, and Kabanbai. To fully embody their roles, they adorned themselves in traditional chapans and armor borrowed from a local Almaty theater.

“I took on the role of Tauke Khan, while my friend Nurbek got the role of Kerei Khan. We rehearsed for several days, aiming to convey the characters of our heroes as much as possible,” said conscript soldier Islam Ashyr.

“It’s intriguing to don this uniform, different from our usual attire, and to imagine how our ancestors wore it. It’s interesting to observe how they walked and moved in this uniform. Looking in the mirror, it feels somehow different,” said conscript soldier Maksat Baktursynov.

The theatrical performance showcased elements from all the days of the Nauryznama Decade. Soldiers reflected the various traditions and customs of the Kazakh people, and also showed the ritual of meetings and national clothing.
