UNESCO: World Nomad Games promote heritage of ancient civilizations

The fifth World Nomad Games are a vivid demonstration of preserving the cultural and historical heritage of civilization, as stated by the President of the 42nd session of the UNESCO General Conference Simona-Mirela Miculescu during an event with the participation of young people in Astana. The distinguished guest noted that hosting the Games in the Kazakh capital underscores the country’s connection to the nomadic civilization and showcases the rich traditions and the enduring spirit of the nomads. The large-scale ethno-sports event offers young people tangible lessons in history. Therefore, holding the Games included in the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in the Great Steppe provides a new impetus for the development of ethnic sports worldwide.

«Even if I speak as a President of the General Conference or Ambassador of Romania, the message is essentially the same, that we should all, each of us, not only governments or civil society, each of us should protect our national treasures, and the role of youth in this is essential. So, I make an appeal to you, you are beautiful members, representatives of the younger generation to preserve, protect, cherish, and love your national treasures including traditional sports,» said Simona-Mirela Miculescu, President of the 42nd session of the UNESCO General Conference.
