The Astana Opera Theater presents
the premiere of Gaetano Donizetti’s opera ‘Il Campanello Di Notte’. A new
production for the residents and guests of the Kazakh capital has been prepared
by the International Opera Academy. The theater troupe, along with designers
and costume makers, are actively preparing for the premiere. Stage director
Nikolai Kulikov strives to bring his vision of the comedic opera to life by
conveying the mood and spirit of old street theaters through unique costumes
and set designs. Thus, the artists’ faces will be covered with white makeup,
and all characters will be portrayed in contrasting colors and shades.
Consequently, it was decided to use bright and rich fabrics such as jacquard
and brocade for costume tailoring.
“In addition to performing opera,
the artists also demonstrate their acting skills. The moment of synthesis is
very important here. Theater is not a purely synthetic art, so while acting
prowess predominates, there are also elements of clowning, circus, and
acrobatics, some minimal elements of that. It's like a complete package,” Kulikov
said.
“We staged Tchaikovsky's timeless
opera ‘Iolanta’ in the main hall of the Astana Opera theater. Our next
production will be Donizetti's opera ‘Il Campanello Di Notte’. We will showcase
it to the audience in the chamber hall of the theater. This marks a new
direction for the soloists of our International Academy, as there are certain distinctions
when performing in a chamber or large hall,” said Aisulu Tani, Executive
Director of the Astana Opera International Opera Academy.
